Federation Square & Australian Center for the Moving Image

Federation Square is a major hub in Melbourne. Here’s impressive Flinders Street Station on the corner next to Federation Square.

While on a free walking tour earlier in the week, I made a note to return to ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image) to check out their Hollywood Costume exhibit.

You can take the girl out of Hollywood…

Unfortunately they don’t allow photos inside the exhibit, but highlights include Dorothy’s ruby slippers and costumes from Titanic, Gone with the Wind, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and The Dark Knight Rises.

There’s also a permanent exhibit on the history of technology as it pertains to the moving image, and they even have an old-school Nintendo JUST SITTING THERE BEGGING ME TO PLAY IT. I’m not ashamed to say I spent 30 minutes straight basking in memories from my childhood, playing this game at the Gabriel’s house after school. I finally call it quits after I get half-way through world 2.

After I finish at ACMI, I wander through Federation Square, admiring its functionality as an outdoor space. There are so many nooks for people to sit down, relax, and have conversations.

If you happen to be in Melbourne in the coming weeks, the Hollywood Costume exhibit runs through August 18th!

  1. I think I saw Dorothy’s ruby slippers in the Smithsonian years ago! How funny they traveled all the way to the other side of the world! Glad you’re still getting your hollywood fill while you’re away. =)

    • It was so weird to be surrounded by all this Hollywood stuff and be so far from home — totally made me miss it. I really wanted to teleport to the DGA and see a screening and Q&A with a leading director after this exhibit.
