Intriguing Species at Woods Hole Aquarium

Yesterday I shared photos from Woods Hole on Cape Cod, but I left out one very cool part of this town: the Woods Hole Science Aquarium.

It’s not very big; you can see the whole thing in 30 minutes or less. It’s got really fascinating creatures. And it’s free. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the Woods Hole area.

The aquarium has two harbor seals in the enclosure out front. Both are non-releasable — one is blind, the other is unable to feed itself in the wild. You can watch their feedings at 11am and 4pm most days.

My favorite part is the long hallway of tanks once you get inside. So many interesting species of fish.

Flat fish are so intriguing! Those eyes!

Alright, I have no idea what species this next monster is. But I kinda love him?

Lion fish are invasive and venomous. I see them often when scuba diving. They are pretty to look at, however.

Another lion fish:

There are more displays on the second level, including this one where visitors are allowed to touch the sea urchins and crabs:

It’s like a big screen TV:

That’s it. The aquarium is a relatively quick visit, but I can’t stop myself from taking a ton of photos. Back tomorrow with photos from our evening in nearby Falmouth.
