Alice Springs: Gateway to the Outback

My flight from Adelaide to Alice Springs is a colorful one. Shortly before our descent, I snap these photos.

This part of Australia is called the Red Center; before I even get off the plane I can see how it earns that nickname.

Alice Springs is actually pretty small. I wander around the downtown area and visit Target (twice in one week; lucky me!).

In late afternoon I hike a short distance up Anzac Hill overlooking the city.

I plan to stay for sunset but unfortunately the cloud cover is too thick. If skies are clear it’d be a great place to watch the sun go down.

I snap the next few photos around town several days later just before I leave Alice Springs.

Look at this next image carefully…

Hysterical, right?

This next one gave me pause…

Apparently it’s a health clinic for Aboriginal males.

This next photo is actually a sign in front of the hospital; I pass by it en route to town from the hostel.

Last but not least, these two items ended up next to each other as I packed my bags and seeing them side-by-side gave me a laugh. They are literally the cheapest and most expensive items I own.

That wraps up some random photos from Alice Springs. This is a tiny taste of what’s to come, as next week I will share photos of my journey through the Red Center — visiting King’s Canyon, Kata Tjuta, and the world-famous Uluru (aka Ayers Rock). Have a great weekend!

  1. Cup-O-Noodles. My guilty pleasure even when i’m NOT traveling. The best 50 cents you’ll ever spend. (Remember the vending machine at the Castle dispensed these? haha)
